This is our dream ring! The combination of platinum, diamond, and sapphire, along with the target style (an inverse of the popular halo look, with a central diamond surrounded by coloured stones) is so quintessentially art deco. What sets this particular ring apart in a crowded field is that the diamond is a beautiful and flattering oval, in an old European cut rather than a more modern brilliant. The centre stone is antique and predates the setting, which is a more modern mounting crafted in the art deco style with french-cut synthetic sapphires, which would have been period-appropriate. The shoulders are also flanked with another pair of old European cut diamonds on each side.

While oval diamond engagement rings are experiencing a huge popularity right now, we love that this ring has the added pop of colour along with the soft feminine shape and finger-lengthening appeal of the oval shape.

The ring has a high enough rise to let light into the stones from all sides, but feels low enough to be easily wearable. The smooth platinum band is comfortable between the fingers, and the detailed basket makes the ring attractive from every angle. Milgrained bezels hold the stones securely in place while adding an extra detail that catches the light, along with the charming facet patterns of the sapphires and diamonds.

The sapphires have a beautiful colour saturation, but do have some light wear consistent with being a pre-owned estate piece. There is a small gap between a few of the calibre-cut stones, but it does not impact the beauty of the ring while worn.
